Australian Plane Safely Lands in Emergency Despite Landing Gear Failure

A small plane had to make an emergency landing at Newcastle Airport in New South Wales, Australia because it could not use its landing gear due to a mechanical problem. Fortunately the pilot and two passengers were not hurt.

The plane called a Beach B-200 Super King flew around the airport for several hours to use up its fuel before landing. When it landed it had to slide on the runway because its wheels could not come down. There is a video showing the plane landing this way and emergency teams quickly coming to help.

The pilot who is 53 years old was praised by the police for doing a great job landing the plane safely. Everyone was safe and the passengers were even able to go home by themselves.

People in the control room cheered when they saw the plane land safely.

The plane was originally going to fly from Newcastle to Port Macquarie, a trip that would take about 26 minutes and cover about 400 kilometres north of Sydney.
