Google announced a new feature called “App Spotlight” for Android phones at its recent I/O developer conference, TechCrunch reported. This feature is designed to show users the best content in the apps they already have installed.
“App Spotlight” will create a “carousel of content” based on what users do on their phones. This carousel will show things like news articles and product recommendations.
With “App Spotlight” users can go straight to the highlighted content in an app. This makes it easier to find and use interesting content.
Google has made deals with over 35 big developers for this feature including Spotify, Pinterest, Tumblr, TikTok and Shopify.
Google promises that user privacy is a top priority. The feature will not do anything beyond what the apps already allow. Users can also turn off “App Spotlight” if they prefer the old way of opening apps.
Google hopes this feature will make using Android phones more enjoyable and engaging.
