The International Monetary Fund (IMF) had talks with Pakistan from May 13 to 23. They said there is “big progress” towards agreeing on a plan to help Pakistan’s economy.
The IMF team led by Nathan Porter talked in the capital city about Pakistan’s plans to fix its economy. Pakistan asked the IMF to come and help.
The IMF and Pakistani officials will keep talking online to finish the plan. They want to figure out how much money Pakistan needs and where it will come from.
Pakistan wants around $6 billion from the IMF. They might ask for more money from other places too.
Before the talks the IMF said Pakistan’s economy still has big problems.
The IMF and Pakistan worked together before in 2023. They are making good progress this time too.
Pakistan wants to make its economy stronger and fairer. They plan to collect more taxes fairly, spend more on things like education and climate protection, fix the expensive energy sector, keep prices stable, improve government services and help businesses grow.
Porter from the IMF said Pakistan’s government, businesses and partners have had good talks.
