Microsoft Edge, the built-in browser for Windows is getting better and faster.
Good news for users who want speed: the browser is now much quicker because of new updates. The company is making the browser’s parts load faster and respond better.
What’s Changing?
Microsoft is updating most of the browser’s parts with a project called “WebUI 2.0.” They want to make it faster. The first update is to the Browser Essentials panel. Now Edge is 42% faster for most users.
For users without an SSD or with less than 8GB of RAM, Edge is 76% faster.
Microsoft Edge is a desktop app but many parts are like web pages such as the New Tab page, settings and side panels. Like websites these parts can be slow. Other browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox also have a mix of native and web-based parts.
What’s Next for Edge?
Microsoft is working on making the Favourites panel 40% faster. More updates are coming soon.
In a blog post, Microsoft said, “We built an entirely new architecture that reduces the size of our code and the amount of JavaScript running at the start. This new design is modular and uses a repository of web components optimised for modern web engines.”
