MOSCOW: On Sunday, a missile hit a Russian apartment building causing it to fall down. This happened after Ukraine fired the missile and Russia shot it down. Russian leaders say 15 people died because the building fell.
The place where this happened is called Belgorod and it was one of the biggest attacks there. Russian officials say Ukraine used many missiles and rockets in the attack.
On Monday morning Russia’s emergency team said 15 people were killed by the building that fell. The governor of the area Vyacheslav Gladkov said four more people died on Sunday in different attacks by Kyiv.
Gladkov also said that 27 people were hurt on Sunday in different attacks. He shared this on the Telegram app.
Ukraine has not said anything about this yet.
Russia’s defence group said there were at least 12 missiles in the attack on Belgorod calling it a terrorist attack on places where people live.
They said, Parts of a missile that was shot down damaged an apartment in Belgorod city.
Videos show a big part of the building falling down. Later as helpers looked for people under the broken pieces, the top of the building also fell and people had to run away from the dust and broken pieces.
Both Ukraine and Russia say they do not aim at people who are not fighting in the war which started when Russia entered Ukraine in February 2022. This war has caused a lot of deaths, forced many people to leave their homes and destroyed many places in Ukraine.
The Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin knows about the attack, calling it barbaric. Russia’s group for foreign matters said attacking people and places where they live and work is wrong.
