OpenAI to Launch Tool to Spot Photos Made by DALL-E 3

Must read

OpenAI, a company supported by Microsoft, announced a new tool on Tuesday. This tool can find out if a picture was made by their DALL-E 3 program. This is important because people are worried that pictures and videos made by computers (AI) could affect elections around the world.

The tool works well and can spot these AI-made pictures about 98% of the time. It can still recognize the pictures even if they have been changed a bit like being cropped or adjusted in colour.

OpenAI, which also created ChatGPT, plans to add special marks (watermarks) to digital files that are hard to remove. This can help people know where a picture or sound came from.

OpenAI has also teamed up with big companies like Google, Microsoft and Adobe. They are working together to find ways to trace where digital content comes from.

Recently fake videos of two famous actors criticising the Prime Minister of India became very popular. These videos were made using AI. This kind of AI-made content is being used in elections in many countries including Indonesia, Pakistan, the United States and India.

To help people understand AI better and deal with its impacts OpenAI and Microsoft are setting up a fund with $2 million. This fund is for societal resilience which means helping society handle the challenges brought by AI.
