Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla announced on April 15 that the company plans to lay off over 10% of its employees globally. This means more than 140,000 people will lose their jobs by the end of 2023.
Recently Tesla informed the California government that it will dismiss 601 more workers in the state. This action is part of a worldwide effort to reduce the number of employees due to fewer car sales and increased competition.
The latest layoffs will start on June 20, 2024 and will affect workers at Tesla’s locations in Palo Alto and Fremont, California.
Last month Tesla also announced it would lay off 6,020 employees in Texas and California. In addition 285 staff members at its facility in Buffalo, New York were let go. This facility works on software for driving assistance and devices that charge cars quickly. On April 30 Musk also shut down the team that handles Tesla’s car charging stations.
