These spiders have venom that is really strong and can hurt you badly. It’s even stronger than a rattlesnake bite! They use it to protect themselves and catch their food.
This venom can be very dangerous, especially for kids, old people and sick people. It can make your muscles hurt a lot, make your heart feel weird, give you stomach pain and even make it hard to breathe.
Experts from Texas A&M University say people should be careful when they are around places where these spiders might hide. They like places that are messy and not disturbed like basements and storage rooms.
One expert, Bryant McDowell, says he’s found black widow spiders in trash cans outside, old BBQ pits and under patio furniture. So it is very important to be careful especially in places where you might not look very often!
